Transportation & Getting Around Austin

Supported by a one percent local sales tax, Capital Metropolitan Transportation Authority provides bus service to more than 3,000 bus stops throughout the Austin area. Some express routes and park and ride facilities include wireless Internet access. All Capital Metro vehicles are equipped with lifts for wheelchairs and Capital Metro also provides special transit services for the disabled. A online trip planner is available on the website or telephone for assistance on route planning. A special feature of Capital Metro is the Dillo bus service, historic trolleys and small buses that travel throughout the central Austin area including downtown, Zilker Park and the University of Texas areas.

A Texas based bus company, Kerville Bus Company provides bus service between Austin and several Texas cities and small towns from the Greyhound Bus Station located on Koenig Lane. In addition, Kerrville Bus Company offers bus service to Houston from Austin's Dobie Mall located adjacent to the University of Texas campus at 2025 Guadalupe Street including Katy (Houston Westside), Houston Downtown and Houston Northside. Tickets for the Dobie Mall to Houston service can be purchased at the Funny Papers store at Suite 256 on the upper level of Dobie Mall (on the north side, opposite the food court). Student discounts are available with a current college student ID.
