Mexican Food Restaurants

The late Matt Martinez, a former Golden Gloves boxing champions, opened Matt's El Rancho with his wife Janie in 1952 with ten tables in East Austin. Since then Tex-Mex favorites like enchiladas and margaritas that Matt's first began serving over fifty years ago have brought fame and celebrity to one of Austin's favorite Mexican food restaurants. The chile rellenos are said to have been a favorite of President Lyndon Johnson. Still family owned and operated, Matt's is now located in a beautiful hacienda style location in South Austin that includes an outdoor patio and a private party room.
